Head Coach at Assumption College & Boston Storm
"The Boston Storm is excited that Abbey Capobianco will join our organization as the team's head coach. It was instantly clear to us that she is the right coach for our team as we enter our second season. Abbey shares our enthusiasm for the game of lacrosse, desire to win a championship, and above all grow the game of women's lacrosse,” explained Andrew Fink. “Abbey has played Division I lacrosse at the highest level and as a college coach, she has demonstrated the ability to build a winning program. We are fortunate to have a coach of her caliber on our sideline this season."
Abbey Capobianco-Simone enters her seventh season as the Assumption College women’s lacrosse head coach in 2016 after being named to the position in July 2010. A former standout college player at both Central Connecticut State University and the University of Massachusetts, she spent the 2010 season as an assistant coach for Northeast-10 Conference rival Bentley University. She enters 2015-2016 with an overall record of 40-42 at Assumption.
In 2015, the Hounds posted a 10-8 overall record that featured a 5-4 home mark and a berth in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament as the No. 7 seed. Receiving votes in the IWLCA National Poll numerous times during the season, the team's 10 wins set the single-season record for victories as the squad has now posted three straight winning seasons for the first time in program history. In addition, each year under Coach Capobianco-Simone, the Hounds have earned IWLCA All-Academic Team honors for a Team GPA of over a 3.0.
Senior Amy McNeil, who was named as an IWLCA Third Team All-Region selection, finished her Assumption career as the program's all-time leading goal and point scorer. Freshman Meghan Cushing also posted one of the top freshman seasons in the Northeast-10 as she earned All-Rookie honors.
The 2014 squad picked up a second-straight nine-win season as the team finished 9-7 overall. In 2013, Capobianco-Simone guided the Hounds to a 9-8 overall as the team received votes in the IWLCA National Poll. The season marked the first winning record for the program since the 2002 season and tied the single-season program record for victories.
During her first season at Assumption, Capobianco-Simone guided the team to an overall record of 7-8, marking the third-best improvement in NCAA Division II women’s lacrosse.
In addition to her duties at Assumption, she also coaches for Boston Laxachusetts, one of the premier club programs in New England, and has been with the program since its inception in 2013. Capobianco-Simone also is the assistant director of the Nike Lacrosse Camp while also working at the Boston College Elite Camp and UMass Camps. In addition, she also founded the lacrosse program at Belchertown High School in Belchertown, Mass.
